Cult Fashion from Lakeland is one of 20 local Indie bands that will play at LKLD Indie Bash Three on Saturday at Lakeland's Union Hall.

LAKELAND — When it comes to independent DIY roots-rockin’ music in Central Florida, generally Tampa and Orlando come to mind. But the Lakeland area has its share of homegrown “indie” musical talent.

And that talent will be showcased Saturday, June 1, when the stage lights shine on 20 musical acts from Lakeland and other areas of Polk County. From noon until about 11:30 p.m. or later, some of the county’s most popular indie bands will take slots on stage in Lakeland’s Union Hall events center, 1023 S. Florida Ave.

LKLD Indie Bash Three will celebrate artists and musical acts from Lakeland’s local music scene from the past 20 years playing 30-minute sets. For this edition of the LKLD Indie Bash, musicians scheduled to perform include Cruel Curses, Mr. Handsome, Love Pit, Cult Fashion, Cogency, Hoss, Halation, No. 9, Ambiguity, Attique Space, Teej, These Times, Aboveonlyspace, Between Jobs, DellShavon, Bad Sci-Fi, Walking Owl, Ani & The Fly Boys and Sheldon Benjamin.

Chris Torres, Union Hall general manager for the past 14 months, said the LKLD Indie Bash is a way to pay tribute to Lakeland-area venues that have hosted original music over the past 20-or-so years. Those include Lillian's Music Store, The Mad Hatter, Winner's Circle, Mojo's Wings Burgers and Beer, Evolution Records, The Poor Porker, Fresco's Underground, Preservation Hall, Tony's Studio B, Krap Art Studios, DC's Sports Bar, the Polk Theater, LkldLive, The Yard On Mass, Art/Fact, Swan Brewing, The Pink Piano, Hillcrest Coffee, Quinteassence Kava Bar and others.

“If you ever went to a local show at any of these venues in the past two decades, then you should consider coming out to LKLD Indie Bash Three at Union Hall and maybe run into some old friends,” said Torres, who’s the guitarist-singer for the Lakeland band Revel in the View. “It is with great pride that we are afforded the opportunity to continue to provide a platform for our local songwriters, artists, and bands to perform their music.”
