Current Drexel University President and former Penn Executive Vice President John Fry has been appointed as the next president of Temple University, and The Daily Pennsylvanian spoke with several Democratic politicians who reaffirmed their support for President Joe Biden after last week's debate.
But first, the Penn & Slavery Project has been awarded funding that will allow it to expand its outreach and research opportunities during the upcoming school year.
The Penn & Slavery Project, a student-driven project that researches the University’s historical ties to slavery and the slave trade, held its annual research presentations in May and is planning for an eventful 2024-25 school year.
The group, which was founded in 2017 by student researchers who discovered Penn's ties to the slave trade, has fought to gain recognition in the Penn community since its creation. Earlier this year, members and affiliates of the group spoke with the DP about the project's findings and their strategies to gain visibility.
Now, after being granted new funding from Provost John Jackson Jr.'s office, the group is looking ahead to the upcoming academic year with aims to further expand publicity efforts and community outreach.

In 2020, the DP reported that then-recent graduate Nia Akins was training professionally during the COVID-19 pandemic with the goal of qualifying for the Olympics. In June, Akins and 2024 Penn graduate Isabella Whittaker were awarded spots on Team USA's Paris Olympics track and field roster.
