Anyone tuning in to The Roast of Tom Brady on Sunday should have known to expect some jokes about the dissolution of his marriage to Gisele Bündchen. But no one could have predicted just how many jabs would have to do with Gisele. Though Brady took most of the punches with a pained grin on his face, People reports that Gisele wasn’t remotely impressed.
Gisele is “deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show,” a source told People. “As always, [Bündchen’s] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted.”
The Gisele jokes started less than 15 minutes in to the roast, when Kevin Hart quipped about the model dating her jujitsu instructor, Joaquim Valente. From there, Brady’s marriage came up over and over again. Nikki Glaser told Brady, “You have seven rings. Well, eight, now that Gisele gave hers back.” Brady’s former teammate Drew Bledsoe said, “Two things I’ve experienced that you never will, Tom: being drafted as first pick in the Draft and celebrating a 28th wedding anniversary.” Another former teammate, Julian Edelman, said he calls Brady “Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex-girlfriend’s ex-husband.” And so on.
Gisele and Brady finalized their divorce in October 2022 and are co-parenting their three children. People reports that the timing of the roast also didn’t help. “This past week, Gisele has been tirelessly dedicated to aiding those in need in her home state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which is grappling with the worst flooding in its history. She was concerned about family affected by the devastating floods, so to hear her life being joked about was very disappointing.”
During the roast, just one comment appeared to upset Brady. After Jeff Ross made a joke about Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s 2019 arrest for soliciting prostitution at a massage parlor, Brady got up from his seat and told Ross, “Don’t say that shit again.” Maybe Brady should have considered a similar defense for the mother of his children?
