Gypsy Rose Blanchard is expecting her first baby with ex-fiancé and current boyfriend Ken Urker. The couple announced the pregnancy on Instagram, where they revealed that Blanchard is due in January of next year.
Blanchard and Urker recently rekindled their relationship after having previously been engaged while Blanchard was incarcerated for the murder of her mother. The couple broke off their engagement in 2019, and Blanchard went on to marry Ryan Anderson in 2022 while she was still incarcerated. She was released from prison in late December 2023, and she filed for divorce from Anderson a few months later.
In a nine-minute YouTube video, Blanchard went into detail about finding out she was pregnant (it was a surprise), the side effects she’s been experiencing (orange-juice cravings), and her hopes for motherhood.
Blanchard, who was the victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy at the hands of her mother, understandably has put a lot of thought into what kind of mother she wants to be. “It’s an amazing feeling when your whole world shifts. Suddenly, it’s not about you; it’s about the tiny little life that’s inside you that you are now in charge of protecting,” she said. “All of the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby.”
In an interview with Good Morning America, Blanchard expressed a similar sentiment. “My mother did not want to see me meet those milestones that every child should have, like going on a first date, a prom, you know, a bike ride. All of those little milestone moments that make life worth living, I didn’t get to have that,” she told Juju Chang. “And so I want my child to have all of the things that he or she could ever want in life.”
“How do you plan to tell your child about your own childhood and the role you had in your mother’s murder?” Chang asked.
“That question has plagued my mind for a long time. And I’ve come to a point where I understand that that question is going to be asked by my child someday,” Blanchard explained. “So I feel like when that time comes, Ken and I will sit down and have that conversation and I will explain in the most honest way possible.”
In the present moment, the questions Blanchard is concerned with are, simply, “Am I taking my prenatals in the morning? Am I drinking enough water?”
