The more you find out about the Olsen twins’ dating history, the less you know. This weekend, Mary-Kate Olsen was seen in the Hamptons with her reported “former flame,” and it wasn’t the ex-French president’s half-brother. No, it was former ice-hockey left wing Sean Avery, whom Mary-Kate apparently dated in 2007.

In photos published by Deux Moi, Olsen and Avery can be seen popping by her new The Row store in Amagansett and then meeting up with — of all people — semi-disgraced Bravo honcho Andy Cohen. Olsen is, of course, buried under her usual layers of luxury fabrics, while Avery, per the Daily Mail, “kept it sporty.”

Who exactly is this guy, you’re wondering? Well, he is indeed sporty — he had a 12-year stint in the NHL before dabbling in fashion, modeling, acting, and briefly opening a bar in Tribeca. At one point, he interned at Vogue. He was also randomly in Oppenheimer.

Dating rumors about Avery and Olsen appear to have flared up in 2007 before quickly dying down. (For those keeping score at home, this dalliance was approximately one year after Mary-Kate’s sister Ashley dated Dax Shepard.) Tabloids seem confident enough that something happened to refer to him as a “former fling,” but it was certainly not official enough to make it onto Avery’s Wikipedia page. There are, however, some unsettling details about Avery’s 2022 divorce from his wife Hilary Rhoda, who later filed a restraining order against her ex-husband, claiming he had physically abused her and their son.

Meanwhile, Olsen, you may recall, finalized her divorce from French banker Olivier Sarkozy in 2021 after she was denied an emergency divorce order, claiming Sarkozy was forcing her to move out of their home in the middle of a pandemic. It’s not clear if she reunited with Avery at some point after that — a source speaking with Us Weekly said they had a “fling” in 2007 but have been “just friends” ever since and “see each other every summer in the Hamptons.” There is something distinctly platonic about a trip to the Amagansett Row and a hang with Andy Cohen.
