Mount Waddington, elev 4016 m, the highest mountain in BC's Coast Mountains, rises near the head of Knight Inlet, 282 km NW of Vancouver. Standing only 39 km from the tidewater, it nourishes at least 5 valley glaciers over 16 km long. Known earlier as Mystery Mt, it was named after English-born industrialist Alfred Waddington, whose dream of a road to the Cariboo goldfields went unrealized. The main summit was climbed in 1933 by F. Weissner and W. House.
