Recently Jill Stokeld, Regional Sales Director with the Advocate caught up with Dr Elliot Hardy of Baton Rouge Clinic for a videocast talk about sinus health and related Ear, Nose, and Throat issues for local patients.  You can watch the full video by scanning the QR code below.

In the videocast, Dr. Hardy discusses common sinus issues seen in patients due to the humid climate and rapid barometric pressure changes in South Louisiana. He highlights that local flora also contributes to sinus problems. Dr. Hardy emphasizes the importance of preventive measures to maintain sinus health, such as regular saline flushes and over-the-counter nasal sprays to reduce inflammation and allergen buildup. He advises patients to seek medical help if symptoms persist beyond 10 days or if they frequently recur, suggesting that in such cases, antibiotics or steroids might be needed.

The doctor also explains the differences between treating children and adults, noting that enlarged adenoid tissue in children can lead to recurrent sinus infections. In severe or chronic cases, he mentions the use of CT scans to evaluate the sinuses for blockages and considers surgical options if multiple infections occur despite medication.

Dr. Hardy concludes that surgical interventions can significantly reduce the need for medications by improving sinus drainage and function, ultimately helping patients manage their sinus conditions more effectively.
