Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office

An Assumption Parish man was arrested Wednesday in the armed robbery of a store in Plattenville last month, sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies believe Divone Jared Davis, 33, is the masked man who entered the store along Spur La. 70 brandishing a gun and demanding cash shortly before noon May 24, Sheriff Leland Falcon said in a statement Thursday.

The man threatened an employee and a customer before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money, deputies said.

The La. 70 Spur area has a handful of stores and gas stations, some of which offer lunchtime meals, in a rural stretch of northern Assumption.

Detectives later identified Davis as the suspect in the robbery, obtained a warrant and searched his home in Bertrandville on Wednesday, deputies said. They found items at the home that they believe are linked to the robbery, deputies said.

Davis was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and being a fugitive from St. Mary Parish, deputies said.

Davis remained in the parish jail Thursday, pending a bail hearing, deputies said.
