UPDATE: Baton Rouge plastic surgeon Lucius Doucet dies in plane crash: 'His legacy will live on'

A plane that took off in Gonzales with three people on board crashed about 20 miles south of Nashville, Tennessee Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

According to Nashville-based outlet The Tennessean, all three were killed in the crash.

In a news conference Wednesday, Williamson County Chief Deputy Mark Elrod told local outlets the plane appears to have broken apart while up in the air.

Flight records show the single-engine plane left the Louisiana Regional Airport in Gonzales around 9 a.m. and was headed to Bowman Field in Louisville, Kentucky but crashed about 175 miles south of its destination.

According to Federal Aviation Administration flight records, the plane is owned by Lucius J. Doucet, III, of Baton Rouge, but it was not immediately clear who was on board.

Doucet is a Baton Rouge area plastic surgeon and called aviation his "favorite hobby." Records show the aircraft, a 1966 Beechcraft V35 Bonanza, has been registered to the Doucet since January.

An airport official confirmed the craft is based out of the airport in Gonzales.

The FAA said in a statement Wednesday that two people were on board. Local officials later said that three people were killed.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.

This is a developing story.
