Dancing for a Cause voting set

Voting has begun for the Dancing for a Cause star dancers.

The annual fundraiser for the Arc of East Ascension is set for 7 p.m. July 13 at the REV Center at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

Celebrity star dancers are Chris Rosato, Rod Braud, Amanda Gautreau, Christian Bourgeois, Caprice Cline, Chabry Marks, Falcon Mire, Elise Tureau Frederic and Kelly Mitchell.

Summer camp opens at Rosenwald School

Registration is open for the River Road African American Museum's summer program at the Rosenwald School in Donaldsonville.

Students in sixth through 12th grade will dive into the STEAM program — science, technology, engineering, arts and math — through July 25.

Spray park opens

The Spray Park at Jambalaya Park is open in Jambalaya Park.

Hunter education class set

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' Hunter Education Certification classes will be held this summer in Ascension Parish. Open to ages 10 and up, classes are two days. Attendees must be present for both days to be eligible for certification. Of age 4-H shooting sports participants are required to have completed and passed a hunter's certification course.

Sweet Spot Cocktail Trail continues

The Ascension Parish Tourism Commission's Sweet Spot Cocktail Trail is underway. To take part, order the “Sweet Spot Cocktail” at participating businesses through July 31, and receive a stamp in your cocktail trail passport.

Purchase any 10 of the cocktails, get a stamp on your passport, and turn in your passport to receive a gift and to be entered into the grand prize giveaway valued at over $600. All completed passports must be turned in by July 31 to be entered into the grand prize drawing. You must be 21 years of age to participate. Visit visitlasweetspot.com/cocktailtrail for information.

Geismar Fire Department raising money for deceased captain

The Geismar Volunteer Fire Department is raising money for medical and funeral expenses of Capt. Arrington Clay Beasley, Fire Chief Nat Stephens said.

The department is raising money to help Beasley's family with medical expenses.

The benefit dinner, served in a drive-thru style through the fire department station house, starts at 10:30 a.m. June 22. There will be a choice of two dinner plates: jambalaya with two pieces of chicken, salad, roll and dessert; and red beans and rice with two pieces of chicken, salad, roll and dessert. The plates will be first come first served. Tickets will be presold through June 15 cash preferred. Each plate will be $10.

The raffle will take place on Aug. 3 at the fire department. Raffle items include a flat-screen TV, Boiling Bucket and two customized tumblers. Tickets for the raffle are $10 and will be sold until Aug. 2.
