Fried rice with shrimp at Tsunami

This isn't your regular shrimp fried rice. The one from Tsunami is seasoned, plentiful and delicious.

I decided on the fried rice after I heard that one of the servers ate it for the entire first week that the Tsunami on Highland was open. It's enough for an entree, as it includes vegetables like bell peppers, onions and edamame. Each bite was seasoned so well, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Beware, though, take a few minutes for the fried rice to cool off, or you'll be impersonating a fire-breathing dragon at the table.

To accompany my dish, I ordered the miso soup with mushrooms, green onion and seaweed in a soy broth — plus, edamame for the table.

Waffle fries and chicken bits from Chicky Sandos

Seasoned waffle fries and chicken bits from Chicky Sandos.

Once a food truck that anchored itself in spots around town, Chicky Sandos is now located inside a storefront in the Bocage area of Jefferson Highway.

The menu is simple: Pick your choice of a chicken sandwich and fries, two large tenders and fries, or, in this case, a mash-up of their seasoned waffle fries, with chicken bits (nuggets with your choice of heat level), and then covered with monterey jack and cheddar cheeses, the house sando sauce and green onions.

Everything is cooked to order and comes in a go-container, so you can grab one of the few seats there or take it to go, and not worry about the delicious sauce that splatters on your cheek from each loaded bite.

Cheeseburger slider at Small Sliders

I didn't see this coming, but Small Sliders' cheeseburger slider has crawled into my brain — and I can't get it out. This slider is the perfect ratio of bun, cheese, hamburger and pickle.

This small burger just hits the spot. I typically prefer my burgers without cheese, but the way the cheese is melted just right with the pickle is some kind of magic. The buttered bun plays a big part in the winning equation, too. Plus, I really like the small size of this burger. (The fries aren't bad either, but it's the burger that I love.)

Highly recommend.
