CHICAGO Fire original cast member Eamonn Walker will exit the TV series after 12 seasons.
Walker, 61, portrays Deputy District Chief Wallace Boden on the hit NBC Drama series.
Walker is leaving his series regular duties on the hit show at the end of Season 12, as reported by Deadline.
Sources revealed that Walker's decision to take a step back from the show was his own and not that of the writers or producers.
Though Walker's character's story arch will wrap up at the end of the current season, the insider also stated that Boden is still alive and well and that Walker expected to return to the show in a recurring capacity moving forward.
Chicago Fire fans will find out what's happening with Boden and the character's plans for the future in the Season 12 finale Never Say Goodbye, which airs on May 22.

SCARED FOR SEVERIDE
Last week, Chicago Fire fans feared a major character would be killed off the popular TV series.
In a promo for this week's episode, firefighter Kelly Severide appeared to be in deep trouble on the drama.
The preview Instagram post was captioned, "Chicago Fire takes stunts to the next level."
In the first scene, a stunt person jumped onto a ladder as a car fell out a window.
The next scene showed someone else jumping onto a car before quickly falling off after the vehicle was pulled through a wall.
The first scene was then shown from a different angle as the rain poured down.
At the end of the video, Miranda Rae Mayo sat on a ladder in her firefighter uniform and threw her arm around in a circle.
After the death-defying stunts were revealed, a promo for next week's episode was shown, causing fans to fear for Severide's life.
THE TRUCK IS MISSING
In the promo, Miranda, who plays Lieutenant Stella Kidd, is heard saying that their fire truck was stolen and that Kaling is missing.
"If anyone can handle it, it's Severide," she said.
Taylor Kinney's Severide was seen hiding in the back of the stolen fire truck.
He then exits the truck and enters a building, where he hides from the thieves who stole the fire house's truck.
Severide is then seen helping an injured person as the two men from the building approach him with guns.
The preview stated that Wednesday's episode of Chicago Fire would be the "ride of his life."
After seeing both videos, fans expressed being afraid for Severide's life.
"SEVERIDE STAY WITH ME?" an X user wrote, alongside the trailer.
"WHAT?!?! OMG that is so intense," a fan replied.
"Please please don’t take Severide away from us. I did not like next weeks promo. But tonight’s episode was fire," a fan begged.
