CHICAGO Med has some changes coming its way after its ninth season on NBC.

Chicago Med debuted on NBC in 2015 and, until now, maintained the same showrunners since its first premiere.

Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider will be quitting Chicago Med as the showrunners at the end of Season 9, Deadline reported Tuesday.

Diane and Andy leading the production on Chicago Med resulted in the show having multiple successful seasons.

Under the duo's direction, Chicago Med has continuously excelled in its 8 p.m. slot, averaging over 10.5 million viewers every Wednesday night.

“We were honored to be chosen by Dick Wolf to run Chicago Med and have tremendously enjoyed our association with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television,” Frolov and Schneider said in a joint statement.

They added: “We love Chicago Med and have devoted all our creative energies to it, but after nine seasons we feel it’s time for us to move on and explore other possibilities.

"We’ve been privileged to work with a great writing staff, production team and a brilliant cast of actors. We will miss them all.”

Chicago Med Executive Producer Dick Wolf admitted that he was grateful to have Dianne and Andy on board as long as they were.

"We’re grateful to Diane and Andy for nine fabulous seasons of Chicago Med,” Dick said in a statement. “They helped us give NBC a No. 1 bonafide hit for almost a decade.”

Chicago Med is the third installment of the Chicago franchise.

This series focuses on the emergency department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and its doctors and nurses as they work to save patients' lives.

Often times, the show crosses over with characters from both Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.

GOING DOWNHILL

Many fans are upset about the showrunners leaving.

On X, fka Twitter, Chicago Med fans revealed that they feared the show would change now that Diane and Andy will no longer be the showrunners.

"All my favs are gone. Only 3 original cast members remain," one fan wrote.

"Good show has been going downhill faster than an avalanche," another expressed.

Although some fans agreed that the news was sad, many felt it was for the best.

"Sad news. But I think some new creativity is needed on this show so might be for the best," a fan admitted.

"These new ships they have Asher and Archer pursuing with other people this season are just not as compelling as the ship that already exists between Archer and Hannah themselves."

IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA

While there is a lot happening behind-the-scenes there is also a lot happening on the show.

Chicago Med's Maggie Lockwood has starred as a Gaffney Chicago Medical Center nurse in the NBC series since Season One.

She "is known for fervently protecting her patients as well as the close-knit relationships with her fellow Gaffney Medical staffers," according to NBC Insider,

Maggie was diagnosed with breast cancer during the show's fifth season premiere and began undergoing chemotherapy.

However, near the end of Season 5, she was in remission.

Marlyne Barrett portrays Nurse Maggie on Chicago Med.

In September 2022, People reported that Marlyne had been diagnosed with ovarian and uterine cancer that July.

"I'm an extremely private person, but I felt a responsibility to tell my story," Marlyne said.

"When my character went through breast cancer, I had a sea of people reach out to me through social media. They brought me courage, and so I felt a sense of inevitability to meet their hearts where they met me."
