APPLE'S iPhone 16 is nearly upon us – and I think I know when it's out.

Last year, I predicted the iPhone 15's release date of September 22, and it's time to check my crystal ball of tech once again.

Apple hasn't confirmed any official plans for an iPhone 16.

But all rumors (and common sense) point to Apple preparing to release a major new smartphone later this year.

The iPhone maker is a creature of habit when it comes to releasing new gadgets.

So I'm pretty sure I know exactly when the next top model will land, so mark those calendars and start saving.

IPHONE 16 RELEASE DATE – WHEN IS IT OUT?

It's impossible to say with 100% certainty when the iPhone 16 will land.

In fact, the company won't even confirm the date of the launch event until about two weeks before it takes place.

Select media will receive special invites from Apple for the gadget extravaganza, confirming the big date.

So what do we know for sure?

For a start, a new flagship iPhone arrives yearly and typically in September.

This release generally falls in the first half of each month – and usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

For this year, we'd expect the iPhone 16 to be revealed on Tuesday, September 10, or Wednesday, September 11.

However the latter is unlikely because the date is associated with the 9/11 tragedy in the United States.

So that means the iPhone 16 reveal date is almost certainly going to be Tuesday, September 10.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best...

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen, then tap in the bar and type a currency (like €200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier

From there, we can work backwards and forwards to predict a whole host of milestones.

We'd expect the invites for the event to arrive on Tuesday, August 17.

And then we're likely to see pre-orders for the phone become available on Friday, September 13.

The new iOS 18 software update that will land on millions of iPhones worldwide will likely drop on Monday, September 16.

This is a free update that will also power the new iPhone 16, as well as bringing loads of features to your existing devices.

Usually, we'd expect to see reviews for the device go live shortly after, once gadget experts have had a good chance to try it – so look out for those on Wednesday, September 18.

Lastly (and most importantly) the actual iPhone 16 release date in stores is likely to be Friday, September 20.
