Sutton returned to the Steelers last month following a year-long stint with the Detroit Lions.

He will now miss the opening eight games of the new NFL season without pay after a league investigation.

The 29-year-old was charged with misdemeanor battery following an alleged domestic violence incident earlier this year.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Sutton in March and he turned himself in 11 days later, per The Athletic.

Sutton's felony charge was reduced to misdemeanor battery in April.

He entered a batterers’ intervention program on April 8, according to court records.

The NFL revealed Monday it had investigated the incident, per a league statement, via AP.

Sutton will be eligible for reinstatement on October 29.

"I was waiting for a call and that call presented itself and I am here now and I am ready to keep moving," Sutton said after rejoining the Steelers in June.

"Adversity strikes everybody in life and it is all about how you handle it and how you go through those phases and knowing who you are individually and not [letting] anybody else dim your light.

"I am thankful for the organization to give me this opportunity and be able to come back out with these guys and try to do special things."

Sutton was a third-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He started just one game in his rookie season but became a regular starter in 2021 after signing a two-year extension.

The Georgia native put up career numbers in 2022 and signed with the Lions the following offseason.

He penned a three-year, $33 million contract and started all 17 of their regular season games in 2023.

"I met this guy in Knoxville man six, seven years ago, whatever it was, when he came out of school.

"He’s a great guy. He loves football.

"It’s probably the totality of our relationship and I probably represent the sentiment of the organization and saying that it’s less about specific conversations, particularly of late, and it’s about the relationship established over a longer period of time."
