Giannis Antetokounmpo breaks down in tears after realizing Olympic dream as fans claim he’s taking shots at Joel Embiid
MILWAUKEE Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is headed to the 2024 Olympics - but fans believe he is taking shots at another NBA star in his celebration post.
Antetokounmpo led Greece to an 80-69 victory over Croatia in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament to secure a spot to compete for the medals.
It is the first time Greece qualified for basketball in the Olympics since 2008.
The 6-foot-11 star took to X to celebrate the huge victory and posted pictures of himself sobbing on the sidelines with his son.
Antetokounmpo captioned the post, "I have never cheat the game.. See you in Paris [praying hand emojis] #Atoutaler."
Many NBA fans believe the Greek Freak is taking jabs at Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid and have rushed to the post to comment.
"My demonnnnnn cooked Embiid," wrote one fan.
"Shots at Embiid?" questioned a second fan.
"EMBIID IN SHAMBLES," claimed a third.
"Cook Embiid holy," a fourth commented.
"Did you see that Embiid," wrote a fifth fan.
This comes after Embiid decided to play for Team USA over France and his birthplace Cameroon for the 2024 Olympics.
Embiid became a US citizen in 2022 and a French citizen a few months before that.
This will be the first time Embiid will compete in an international competition.
Antetokounmpo and Embiid are regarded as two of the best big men in the game and have had beef in the past.
During the 2018-2019 season, Embiid labeled himself “the most unstoppable player of the league.”
Giannis didn't take too kindly to the statement, saying no player should say anything that brash about themselves and should, instead, let others put labels on them.
Despite the tension between the two big men, Antetokounmpo has the upper hand as he won an NBA title with the Bucks in 2021.
Embiid has yet to win an NBA title and advance to the conference finals during his time with the 76ers.
Meanwhile, other countries that qualified for the Olympics include Brazil and Spain.
Greece will count on Antetokounmpo heavily as he dominated in the country's final qualifying game against Croatia.
Antetokounmpo scored 23 points, pulled in eight rebounds, and dished out three assists in the win.
Greece will join the United States, Germany, Serbia, Canada, South Sudan, Japan, Australia, and Olympic host France in the medal rounds.
