Her ex-husband, Keith Papini, 39, got a sizable payment after his California home was impacted by a wildfire in 2021, ABC News reported.

Sherri argued she's entitled to a portion of this money since she contributed to the household's expenses before the kidnapping scheme in 2016.

But Keith testified that the money was gone.

He spent it on living expenses and a $500 per month allowance for his mother when he and the children were living with her.

Keith also took the stand to claim that Sherri has racked up significant credit card debt she can't pay off, the Daily Mail reported.

Her bills allegedly include a $3,200 purchase at Best Buy.

When asked about her finances, Sherri repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment.

Keith also claimed that Sherri's legal team has refused to speak to him as he works to get full custody of the couple's two children.

Sherri faked her disappearance so she could get back together with her former lover, James Reyes.

She began planning the scheme in December 2015 and put it into action the following November.

Sherri had Reyes pick her up from a trail where she claimed to be out for a jog.

The mother reappeared three weeks later on Thanksgiving while wearing a chain around her waist and arm.

She initially claimed that she had been kidnapped by two Hispanic women.

This story fell apart when investigators found DNA evidence on a piece of clothing that led back to Reyes.

Sherri was arrested in March 2022 and later pleaded guilty to making false statements and mail fraud.

She was released from prison in October.

Keith filed for divorce in April 2022 just days after Sherri pleaded guilty.

He currently has temporary custody of the children as those proceedings continue.
