He was sitting outside the property in his UK-plated Audi at around 3.15pm after returning from the gym when he was targeted.

He is believed to have been shot from another vehicle that drew up beside him before speeding from the scene.

Williamson died instantly after one of the seven bullets fired hit him in the heart.

One of his close family members, who did not want to be named, said that his mother, who also lives in Spain, was by his side "screaming for help" and desperately trying to save her son as he died.

"We are just choking up about it. We just don't get why it happened," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"His mum is in bits about it. She brought him into this world and she tried to save him.

"She was there when he went out of the world too.

"He was loved by a lot of people, he was respected by a lot of people.

"He was well known in Salford even though he had lived in Spain for many years, he was loving life in Spain.

Mr Williamson married in August and was father to two children from a previous relationship as well as step-father to his wife's child.

He had been living in Spain for around 15 years.

'HE WASN'T INVOLVED WITH DRUGS'

Local police were reported to be working on the theory that his murder had been an organised hit related to the drugs trade.

Spanish business records show Mr Williamson was registered as a self-employed agricultural sector intermediary specialising in “international trade”.

He is also reported to have been arrested by Spanish police in March for using a transport firm to send cannabis resin from Malaga to an unidentified destination.

Following the reports, the family member said he wanted to clarify some of what he had read.

"He had a number of businesses with his wife. He paid his taxes, everything was above board," he said. "His mum just wants people to know that that he had nothing to do with drugs, he was not doing anything like that."

'WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR ANYONE'

Local police have not commented on the reports, though have confirmed that no arrests have yet been made.

Friends and relatives paid tribute to Mr Williamson, who was nicknamed Snaggle and is believed to have two children.

Aunt Carol Williamson Moores wrote on social media: “My caring beautiful nephew little Peter.

“Taken from us in horrible circumstances. Gone too soon.

"Love you Snaggle. Always in my heart. Will never be forgotten.”

Another family member wrote: "This guy would do anything for anyone and was loved by everyone he met.

"It’s such a privilege to have grown up with him."

Sarah Kay Moores added: “Absolutely devastated and heartbroken. Still doesn’t seem real that he’s gone.”
