Nashville police are investigating a drug-related fatal shooting of a Memphis man in a parking lot on Hamilton Crossings Road in South Nashville.
Police said in a news release that London Montgomery, 23, was found with gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of a stolen vehicle after it crashed into a retaining wall around 10 p.m. Sunday.
Montgomery backed into a parking space next to a Jeep Grand Cherokee when one suspect got out of the Jeep and entered the vehicle Montgomery was in. A short time later, a second suspect briefly approached Montgomery in what police believe to be a robbery attempt.
Police said Montgomery began to drive off when one of the suspects fired several rounds, striking the man, who continued a short distance before crashing into a retaining wall.
Montgomery was taken to a local hospital where he died. The suspects fled the area.
