A woman died after the car she was a passenger in overshot an exit ramp while racing another car and crashed, police said.

Nashville police responded to the crash about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 24 West at Briley Parkway, according to a statement from the Metro Nashville Police Department. A Nissan Altima "appeared to be racing another vehicle when it overshot the exit ramp to Briley Parkway North and lost control."

The car eventually came to a rest on the other side of the ramp, police said.

Olivia Thomas, 23, of Jackson, Tennessee, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died. The driver was also taken to the hospital and remains there in critical condition, police said.

Police have not yet charged the driver, a 24-year-old man also of Jackson, Tennessee, but expect to file charges against him as officers found evidence of impairment at the scene, according to their statement.
