Matthew “Matt” Allen Carney passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 42. Matt is survived by his wife Molly; his father Clifford (Lori) Carney; mother Debra Taylor; brother Adam (Amy) Carney; sister Katelin (Chad) Jeffers; grandmother Patricia Carney; step- brother Donald (Rachel) Hall; step-sister Kim (August) Kuster; and many nieces and nephews.

Growing up in Adair, Iowa, Matt enjoyed playing sports and was a member of the Grant Sky Eagles 4-H Club. After graduating from Full Sail University in Orlando, he moved to Nashville. Matt pursued his passion of cooking, first launching a popular food truck and ultimately a successful brick and mortar restaurant, Smokin’ Thighs, where he served the Nashville community for 10 years.

Matt will be remembered for his joyful spirit, his loud laugh and his smile that lit up the room. His friends knew him as the life of the party, with his positive attitude, jokes and loyalty to those he loved. He loved big. Matt was happiest when outside on his boat with friends and family, rock crawling in his KRX side by side, pushing dirt at Highwater or wrenching in the garage with his dog, Mr. Kitty. He was an active member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization, Nashville Chapter.

To celebrate Matt’s life, Pastor Aaron Bryant will conduct a service at 12pm on Thursday, July 11th at Brentwood Baptist Church (7777 Concord Rd, Brentwood, TN 37027). In honor of Matt’s lively personality, feel free to wear colorful attire to his service. His family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11 th from 10am-12pm at the church. Pallbearers are Landon Allen, Josh Boots, Brad Hill, Mose Ramieh, Jim Reynolds, Gabriel Smith, Ben Vice, and Phil Warren. Honorary pallbearers are Randall Carney, Chad Jeffers and Ryan White.
