It is with profound sadness, but also a sense of sincere gratitude for a life well-lived that the family of Robert Bond Miller announces he peacefully passed away at home on July 5, 2024, at the age of 90.

Bob was born in St. Louis, Missouri, May 12, 1934. He was raised by his parents, Dr. Lloyd C. Miller, Sr., and Elizabeth Bond Miller. In 1942, his family moved to Nashville when his father was named the Medical Director of the National Life and Accident Insurance Company.

Bob attended Overbrook School, Montgomery Bell Academy, Vanderbilt University and graduated from Parks College of Aeronautics at Saint Louis University with a BS in Aeronautics. Following graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Illinois and Zaragoza, Spain. He received an honorable discharge as a 1st Lieutenant and later as a Captain in the reserves. After his discharge, Bob traveled throughout Europe and sold mutual funds to U.S. service men in Spain and France.

Upon his return to Nashville in 1960, he sold life insurance with Mass Mutual where he was awarded a Charter Life Underwriter and a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He was also a founding member and local president of the International Association of Financial Planners.

In 1968, he formed Miller & Associates, then in 1969, co-founded with Jack Jacques, Jacques-Miller, a financial planning company that offered limited partnerships in apartment complexes and commercial properties. In 1985, Miller & Associates reopened to focus on buying and selling apartment buildings, shopping centers and office buildings. In 1997, he and his wife, Betsy, were among the first people to begin rehabbing homes in East Nashville. Over a period of 10 years, they renovated more than 150 homes.

A life-long Catholic, he loved his family, Montgomery Bell Academy, the Vanderbilt Commodores, the Tennessee Titans, and politics. Over the years, Bob and Betsy enjoyed traveling both abroad and in the U.S.; they especially enjoyed the trips with his daughters and their families.

Bob was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Bond Miller in 1961, his father, Dr. Lloyd C. Miller, Sr., stepmother, Mary Lyles Wilson Miller, his brother, Lloyd C. Miller, Jr. (Carol) and his nephew Lloyd C. Miller, III.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betsy Bass Miller, his daughters Kim Davis (Lipscomb III), Elizabeth Piercy (Phillip) and Kelley Watts (Jerry). His grandchildren Lipscomb Davis, IV (Rachel), Haley Davis, Miller Watts McGuire (Aaron), Carter Watts, Bond Piercy, Rollin Piercy, and his great grandchild Lipscomb Davis, V, Eddie Bass (Joan), Linda Wolf (Ron) and Mary Harper (Matt). He is also survived by Emily Guerra Miller, his former wife and mother of his daughters and by his nephew David B. Miller (Vivi).

The family would like to thank the doctors at VUMC, the "visiting angels" from Saint Henry's Church: Jean Pennington, Bolin Stumb, and John Maxwell, Enhabit Hospice as well as his wonderful caregiver Angela Reed.

A memorial mass for Bob will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Henry's Church (6401 Harding Pike) followed by a celebration of life from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Belle Meade Country Club (815 Belle Meade Boulevard).

Honorary Pallbearers are Ridley Wills, Jack Jacques, and the surviving members of the 1952 Class of MBA. Bob has donated his body to the Vanderbilt Anatomical Donation Program of Vanderbilt Medical School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MBA Class of '52 Scholarship Fund, or the Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Homebound at St. Henry's Church.
