Hard to separate sides that rarely lose

The recent history of these nations in European Championship finals paints a clear picture of how this game could pan out.

Hungary drew two of their three group games at Euro 2020, while Switzerland have drawn half of their six group matches across the previous two tournaments.

No one would be shocked if Saturday’s clash ended in a stalemate, with both nations looking to avoid defeat in their tournament opener.

At Euro 2020, four points were enough for three teams to progress to the knockout stage.

And with these teams no doubt looking to beat Scotland and take whatever they can against hosts Germany in the other matches, a draw could be the first stepping stone to qualification for the last 16.

Hungary vs Switzerland tip 1: Draw @ 9/4 with Betfred

Hungary can harry the Swiss into mistakes

There should be little doubt about the prospects of goals in Cologne, however, with neither coach known to be particularly negative by nature.

Hungary have some quality in attack with Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai their classiest footballer, but boss Marco Rossi has also been able to get the best out of journeyman forwards Barnabas Varga and Martin Adam.

Both can be very effective weapons at international level with their ability to press and upset defenders, which may be just the way to get at Switzerland’s defence.

Hungary won at least one half of football in six of their eight qualifiers while the Swiss were outscored in at least one 45-minute period, usually the second, in five of their past seven competitive games.

Hungary vs Switzerland tip 2: Hungary to win either half @ 23/20 with Betfred

Swiss are the pass masters

Both teams scored in the majority of both Hungary and Switzerland’s qualifiers, with each of Nemzeti Tizenegy’s previous five games producing goals for both sides.

Rossi’s men never give up, a quality illustrated by their late levellers away in Lithuania and Bulgaria.

They also grabbed a stoppage-time settler at home to Montenegro in their final qualifying game, which made it three straight matches where they scored after the 80th minute.

Nati, meanwhile, were the pass masters in qualifying as Murat Yakin’s men racked up an incredible total of 6,707 attempted passes, an average of more than 670 per game.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka was right at the heart of their clockwork-like operation and averaged more than 92 passes per appearance.

It looks well worth adding Xhaka to record 90+ passes and the Swiss as a team to top 600 to a bet builder featuring both teams to score in this clash where Switzerland are likely to have the lion’s share of the ball.

Hungary vs Switzerland tip 3: Bet builder: both teams to score, Switzerland over 599.5 passes and Granit Xhaka 90+ passes @ 11/4 with Betfred
