HUDSON — A Homosassa woman riding a bicycle died early Friday after she was hit while crossing the path of a pickup truck on U.S. 19 at New York Avenue, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Nora Anne Casson was accompanied by a dog as she headed west across U.S. 19 around 2:45 a.m., the Highway Patrol said. She was hit by a southbound 2017 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Gary Clendennen, 65, of Cleveland, Texas. The dog also was killed. Clendennen was not injured.

Clendennen had a green light and Casson failed to obey a pedestrian control signal or use the marked crosswalk, the Highway Patrol said. Casson was not wearing a helmet.

Casson was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where she later died. The dog died at the scene of the accident. No charges were filed in the crash.
