European rivals clash as Spain and France meet for the semifinal of the 2024 UEFA Euro tournament on Tuesday, July 9 (7/9/2024) at Munich Football Arena in Germany.

After eliminating Germany, the 2024 Euro tournament hosts, Spain continues its charge back to continental glory, trying to reclaim a title they last won in 2012, and have won three times in tournament history. They’ll have to contend with a Kylian Mbappe-led and French National Team, which has two continental titles under its belt, most recently in the year 2000.

France held Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal to a 0-0 draw in the quarterfinal, and ultimately won 5-3 on penalties after 120 minutes of grueling, scoreless play. Mbappe struggled during the outing, failing to score on five shots and ultimately subbing out during extra time. Mbappe sustained a broken nose earlier in the tournament, and took another hit to the face during the clash with Portugal. Ultimately, his replacement Bradley Barcola was able to find the net during penalties and help France win.

Spain went 2-1 to beat Germany in another game that went to 120 minutes, but this time, Mikel Merino saved his side from a penalty shootout with a header off a cross from Dani Olmo at 119′ to secure the win in front of a crushed German home crowd. Spain finished down a man in Dani Carvajal, who was booked at 120+6 with his second yellow of the match. He and France’s Robin Le Normand will both be serving suspensions for the semifinal.
