To the Editor:

Thank you for publishing the recent article on Hurricane Beryl’s unprecedented intensity. While highly informative, the article failed to address the significant role of climate change in fueling major early-season storms. Scientists tell us that CO2 emissions are heating the atmosphere and warming our waters, creating longer, more dangerous hurricane seasons. Without tangible change, our hurricane seasons will continue to extend and produce more devastating storms. Right here in Central New York, we will continue to see rising temperatures just like the ones we had a couple of weeks ago.

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act offers a solution by making big fossil fuel companies pay a fee for their pollution, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating safer waters. I urge Representative Brandon Williams (R-Sennett) to cosponsor this bill in the House of Representatives. It will aid our nation’s economy and promote clean energy.

As a high school student, I am concerned for my future. Climate solutions like this act are vital to ensure my generation can grow into a livable world.

Thank you for considering this important issue.
