SU’s Preston Shumpert confident he can continue Liverpool boys basketball’s winning tradition: ‘It’s his turn’

Preston Shumpert

Former Syracuse men's basketball teammates Preston Shumpert (3) and Ryan Blackwell celebrate during a game against Notre Dame on Jan. 16, 2000, at the Carrier Dome. Shumpert was recently hired to take over the Liverpool boys basketball program after Blackwell left to take an assistant position at Siena College.

Even after spending years learning the game of basketball from some of the greatest coaches in the world, Preston Shumpert never envisioned he’d pick up the clipboard himself.

The 6-foot-6 forward played three seasons at Syracuse University for Jim Boeheim before heading overseas to play professionally for over a decade.
