Syracuse, N.Y. — The first of Jazz in the City’s pair of July concerts is scheduled for Thursday, July 11, at the new Syracuse Community Health building in the heart of the Downtown South area, near the site of the new STEAM High School and JMA.
The centerpiece of the Syracuse Community Health “culture and public health” series, this event brings a prominent national act to its stage, Double Bass Experience, featuring Jacob Webb and Phylicia Rae.
A sensation in the contemporary jazz world, the group is fronted by two electric bassists in the style of Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Waymon Tisdale. Webb and Rae combined have already garnered a total of seven No. 1 Billboard records.
Rae is the first female lead bassist to ever obtain a No. 1 record on Billboard’s smooth Jazz National Airplay Chart. Webb has established his Next Paradigm label as a top four smooth jazz imprint. The pair has collaborated, recorded or performed with superstars Valerie Simpson, Gerald Albright, Najee, Kenny Garrett, Jazz In Pink, Kim Scott, Nick Colionne, Kim Waters, Roy Hargrove and others.
Opening the show is a collection of local music and dance talent curated by Chuck Jackson of C-Jack Run Enterprises. Food from Johnny Gee’s and B&G Mac & Cheese, and Skippy’s ice cream will be available, as well as a large family of healthcare and craft vendors.
“How unique a platform we have here in Syracuse, combining America’s multicultural music with a roving public health platform,” said Larry Luttinger, CNY Jazz founder and curator of the series. “This concert showcases the beauty and functionality of the new Syracuse Community Health building as well. Bring the family for the great music, the goodie bags filled with swag and family health information, get screened by the S.C.H. nursing team to get a free scratch-off, and enjoy our fine city.”
Jazz in the City concerts are free and open to the public. No alcohol is served.
