Four tried to steal $78,000 in 2 phone scams that targeted Central NY seniors, troopers say

Four men were arrested after trying to steal $78,000 in two phone scams that targeted seniors in Oswego County, state troopers said Friday.

A 75-year-old woman went to the State Police barracks in Pulaski with $40,000, telling troopers she got a call from someone accusing her of a crime, police said in a news release.

To avoid being arrested, the person on the phone told her she had to pay a fine in cash. The money would be picked up by someone who would go to her house, she told police.
