Three local organizations teamed up to distribute Rosh Hashanah meals to people in need living in Palm Beach County.
Through the efforts of Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Service in West Palm Beach, the Jewish Volunteer Center of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County and the Kind Kitchen of Palm Beach, more than 150 volunteers packaged holiday meals, loaded them into cars and made contactless deliveries while wearing masks and gloves.
“What a mitzvah it was to usher in the new year by providing a bountiful, home-cooked meal for adults and families for Rosh Hashanah,” said Belinda Lasky, Alpert JFS director of volunteer leadership, in a news release. “We are grateful to the large number of volunteers who offered their time to prepare the packages and deliver them to households in need throughout our community.”
A total of 230 meals from the Kind Kitchen were delivered to 173 households in Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, Palm Beach Gardens, Royal Palm Beach, Wellington and West Palm Beach.
During a different event, Alpert JFS’ Kosher Food Pantry provided Rosh Hashanah baskets to 35 families in Palm Beach County for its annual holiday food distribution. Case managers and volunteers of the agency made deliveries to recipients who are unable to drive while following safety protocols. The food baskets were assembled and decorated by residents of the agency’s Melvin J. & Claire Levine Jewish Residential & Family Service group homes and apartments.
