Demi Lovato is giving her heart a break after her whirlwind engagement.

The “Give Your Heart a Break” singer, 28, is “doing okay” after making the “tough decision” to end her short engagement with Max Ehrich, 29, after coming to believe he was “trying to further his career by using her name behind her back,” an insider told People.

“It was hard for Demi to admit she made a mistake when it came to Max,” the source told the outlet.

People first reported the couple’s split Thursday, just over two months after they got engaged in Malibu. The pair started dating four months earlier.

“It was very hurtful to Demi when she realized that Max’s intentions weren’t genuine,” another source close to the Disney Channel alumnus told People. “Breaking off the engagement was not an easy decision.”

As the couple started seeing each other toward the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and quarantines, a source noted they were “basically together 24/7 for months,” during which the pair “lived in a bubble with zero stress and everything was just fun.”

When the “Young and the Restless” actor went to Atlanta to film the movie “Southern Gospel,” the insider said he “shot up in fame” and “got wrapped up in [Hollywood],” which took a toll on the relationship.

In an Instagram Story over the weekend, Ehrich claimed he had found out about the split through the media, writing: “Imagine finding out about the status of your relationship through a tabloid.”

Lovato’s camp denied the claims, with a source telling People that the “Sorry Not Sorry” songstress “made Max aware that the relationship was over and it was going to come out in the press.”

Drama aside, Lovato, who has spoken candidly about her mental health struggles and history with addiction, is “doing okay,” a source said, adding that the split is “a good thing.”
