Left-handed starter Quinn Mathews and outfielder Chase Davis were named Cardinals minor league pitcher of the month and player of the month, respectively, for June.
Mathews, 23, posted a 2.10 ERA and struck out 37 batters in 30 innings across five starts that included four with Class High-A Peoria and one with Class AA Springfield. The former fourth-round pick from the 2023 MLB draft held opposing hitters to a .149 average notched five quality starts in June.
The Cardinals pitcher of the month honors is Mathews’ second this year. Mathews earned organizational pitcher of the month honors for April after he posted a 0.50 ERA and struck out 38 batters across 18 innings in his first four starts to begin his first minor league season.
This season, Mathews is 6-2 with a 2.03 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 79 2/3 innings. The Stanford product has leaped from Class Low-A Palm Beach to Class AA Springfield through his first three months of professional baseball and was one of two Cardinals prospects selected for this year’s All-Star Futures Game.

Following a quiet start to his professional career, Davis produced a .333 batting average and a 1.147 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) in 20 games during June.
Davis, the Cardinals’ first-round pick a year ago, homered five times, doubled seven times, and drove in 23 RBIs this past month after he homered twice and batted .184 through his first 38 games this season. The 22-year-old Davis drew 17 walks and struck out 13 times over 84 plate appearances in June.
Davis's productive month also earned him Florida State League player of the month honors.
The former 21st overall pick from the 2023 draft owns a .220 batting average and a .734 OPS in 62 games at the start of Friday.
