Jacob Yorg has been named the new girls basketball coach at St. Joseph's Academy.
Yorg, who guided John Burroughs to state championships in 2022 and 2024, replaces Julie Matheny. The 2022 title was the first in Bombers program history.
Matheny stepped down from the Angels post after the 2023-24 season. Her 33-year career included 517 wins, 10 final four appearances and a state title in 2004.
St. Joseph's athletics director Maureen McVey said she received approximately eight applicants for the job. The selection process included input from Matheny.
Yorg has taught at St. Joseph's the last six years. He is very familiar with the players and the program.
"He's in house and we just think he's going to be a great fit," McVey said. "He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and success to the program. The accolades he's received in the last three years at John Burroughs were very, very impressive to us."

The Bombers repeated that feat in March with a 57-41 triumph over Lutheran St. Charles in the Class 5 title tilt.
Yorg, who is known for wearing outlandish suits at the state tournament, compiled a 77-11 record over the last three seasons at John Burroughs.
The last of St. Joseph's six state titles was Matheny's in 2004. The Angels have made 18 final four appearances.
