President Joe Biden’s horrific debate performance last week could turn out to be a positive development. His poor performance reinforced concerns about his age, which did real damage to his campaign.
As a result, Biden should gracefully withdraw from the nomination (a la LBJ). Opening the nomination process then offers an opportunity for the party to select a leader they can get behind, based on character and issues. The reduced time frame for the nomination could encourage public engagement and restore confidence in the democratic process.
