O'FALLON, Mo. — An investigation is underway after a 19-year-old driver fatally struck a child who was riding his bicycle Friday morning in a neighborhood here.
The O'Fallon Police Department said that the boy, 9, lived out-of-state and was in O'Fallon visiting family. Authorities have not released the child's name.
Police say the child was not wearing a bicycle helmet.
The crash occurred shortly before noon on Friday, near the intersection of Harmony Lane and Vine Street, a residential neighborhood north of Interstate 70 and east of O'Fallon's Main Street.
When officers arrived, they found the child in the middle of the street. The officers began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.
The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man from St. Louis County, remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation into the crash. O'Fallon Police have not named the driver.

Sgt. Jill Bloomfield, a community services officer with the O'Fallon Police Department, said the man was driving a truck that belonged to his employer and was alone in the vehicle when the crash occurred.
Police ask witnesses to contact the department and neighbors along Harmony or Vine to provide any home surveillance video of the crash.
"We are just making sure that all of our loose ends are tied up, and we want to round out the investigation," Bloomfield said.
