ST. CHARLES COUNTY — A man, 44, who police say had “special needs,” accidentally drowned in a neighborhood pond near Weldon Spring Friday morning.
Emergency services responded to a potential drowning call around 8 a.m. in a retention pond near Walnut Hill Court. Police identified the man as Darran Lamon Hutson.
Barry Bayles, public affairs officer at the St. Charles County Police Department, said a resident, whose house overlooks the pond, called 911 when she saw a man enter the water, but not resurface.
Fishermen nearby witnessed him, too, police said.
The MetroWest Dive/Water Rescue Team found and retrieved the man’s body around 8:30 a.m.
The pond is between 10 to 15 feet deep with a rocky, muddy bottom, said Capt. Matt Coppin, of MetroWest.
