ST. LOUIS — A Central West End hardware store that’s been a neighborhood institution for more than a century is expanding.
New Market Hardware Co. has leased 8,250 square feet of space on Park Avenue in Botanical Heights. The store plans to use the space to house its business that handles overstocks and estate sale items, according to a release.
New Market Hardware Co. will remain at its longtime location at 4064 Laclede Avenue, said Meade Summers, president and CEO of real estate firm Hilliker Corp., which brokered the lease.
New Market is one of a handful of locally owned, mom-and-pop hardware shops still in operation in the region. The store opened in 1914.
