A battle rapper growing up in East Atlanta’s notorious Zone 6, Ricardo Valentine (aka 6lack, pronounced “black”) perfected a style of rapping that was “more melodic, more nonchalant: He wasn’t quite singing, but he wasn’t quite rapping either,” explains Pitchfork. Standing between rapper and singer, he crafted several albums. His latest is “Since I Have a Lover” his first full-length album in five years, where he wrestles with wanting to settle down after chronicling his time as a player on two other albums.
