A driver has been rescued after being stranded by floodwaters on Highway 288 northbound at 610 South Loop.

The man is now safe after being lifted to dry land by the Houston Fire Department, according to initial reporting by ABC13.

Traffic cameras captured the tense situation as the individual climbed onto the top of his vehicle to avoid the water, which was made choppy by Beryl's strong winds. Around 10:37 a.m., first responders gave him a life jacket and lifted him from the water with a rescue ring buoy attached to a fire truck.

ABC13 also reports the vehicle, which remains stuck on the highway, appears to belong to an auto repair company.
