Austin pitmaster Kareem El-Ghayesh to compete in Netflix series 'Barbecue Showdown'

An Austin pitmaster is bringing the heat to a Netflix barbecue series.

Kareem El-Ghayesh of KG BBQ, a food truck parked at Oddwood Brewing, will compete in the third season of "Barbecue Showdown," according to Eater Austin. The first episode of the season premieres July 4.

El-Ghayesh will go head-to-head with eight other pitmasters to compete for $50,000. One of the other contestants is also from Texas: Sloan Rinaldi of Houston's Texas Q, according to Eater Austin.

Actress and comedian Michelle Buteau will host the show while Melissa Cookston and Kevin Bludso will serve as judges.

KG BBQ is known for its Egyptian twist on classic barbecue, with items such as a brisket shawarma, pomegranate glazed pork ribs, rice bowl kofta, lamb bacon ribs and more.
