With the 2024 NBA Draft in the rearview mirror and Summer League underway, the updated BetMGM odds for 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year have recently shifted substantially.

Not surprisingly, most of the early lottery picks remain listed among the favorites. Alex Sarr, Zaccharie Risacher, and Stephon Castle — three of the first four picks off the board in Round 1 — comprise three of the top five shortest odds on BetMGM's ROY futures board.

But what about the sleepers? Who has shot up the board since Summer League began? Where does Bronny James fall on the list? Let's take a look at the full BetMGM odds board for NBA Rookie of the Year, and briefly discuss the favorites, values, and long-shot sleepers.

Who are the 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year favorites?

To nobody's surprise, Wizards No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr (+700) and Hawks' first overall pick Zaccharie Risacher (+800) have two of the three shortest odds to win Rookie of the Year.

San Antonio's No. 4 pick Stephon Castle (+1000) and the Lakers' steal at No. 17, Dalton Knecht (+900) also remain in the top five.

The Grizzlies' Zach Edey (+600) has been the biggest riser, skyrocketing all the way up from +1000 on June 27 (sixth-shortest on the board) to the odds-on favorite.

Who are the top sleepers to win Rookie of the Year?

With UConn big man Donovan Clingan (+1800) landing in Portland, he figures to have a big role from Day 1 of his NBA career. An elite rim protector and strong interior scorer, it's possible he wins this award simply by producing a bunch of double-doubles and staying healthy for an entire season.

If Portland moves DeAndre Ayton or Robert Williams – or if either get hurt — Clingan could wind up with an impact similar to what Dereck Lively made in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. That's not to say that the Blazers will make the postseason, but Rookie of the Year winners rarely make the playoffs anyway.

The Timberwolves acquired the rights to Terrence Shannon Jr. (+8000) from San Antonio for next-to-nothing (two draft picks in the early 2030s), and they might have bagged the steal of the draft in the process.

Formerly considered a high lottery pick, Shannon's stock dropped after 2023 sexual assault charges that were ultimately acquitted. He has the all-around talent to immediately inherit a strong rotational role with Minnesota.

What are Bronny James' odds to win Rookie of the Year?

Since the smoke cleared from the Lakers drafting him to play alongside his father LeBron, Bronny James has been listed at +25000 on the BetMGM ROY odds board. Bronny initially opened at +15000 after being picked by the Lakers at pick No. 55, but he has since lengthened to the longest odds on the board.

Normally, this could probably be spun as a value betting opportunity — but given how much development Bronny will likely need before assuming a role as an x-factor or difference-maker, even a lotto-ticket wager seems ill-advised. Cool stories don't always equate to strong betting opportunities.
