The New York Yankees offense reverted back to its meager form Sunday night, resulting in a 3-0 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.

The day after Ben Rice made Yankees history as the first rookie to hit three home runs in a game, the offense mustered just four hits, three of which came from the 7-9 hitters in the lineup.

The lack of offense wasted a strong bounce-back outing from rookie Luis Gil, who tossed 6.2 innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out nine.

Gil's biggest mistake was a 99 mph fastball in the seventh inning to Rafael Devers, which resulted in a solo home run to break a 0-0 tie.

Luke Weaver came on in relief of Gil to end the seventh inning. He gave up a solo home run to Ceddanne Rafaela in the top of the eighth inning. Devers wound up homering again in the ninth inning as well off Michael Tonkin.

The Yankees couldn't get anything going against Kutter Crawford, who tossed 7.0 shutout innings, needing just 68 pitches (54 strikes) to do so.

The Yankees are now 6-16 in their last 22 games and have fallen three games back of the Baltimore Orioles in the division.
