The MLB trade deadline is roughly three weeks away, and the Boston Red Sox have put themselves in a wild-card spot with some incredible performances over the last month.
With that said, no one seems to know which direction Boston will decide to turn when it comes to the deadline.
Will they buy? Will they sell? Will they do a little of both? It's anyone's guess.
Ahead of the deadline, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow shared his thoughts on the team's direction on an episode of the "Fenway Rundown" podcast with Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam.
"I have to think about how we can be best positioned to win tonight, tomorrow and next year," Breslow said. "Trying to balance all of those is difficult at times. The lane that we pick is going to be dictated by a host of considerations, none more meaningful than what is happening on the field.
"I'm still adamant and committed to picking a lane, and we're going to get more and more information over the next couple of weeks. The one thing we can do that helps steer that direction is win as many games as possible on the field."
Manager Alex Cora and his roster of players have held up their end of the bargain so far. They currently sit nine games above .500 with a less-than-impressive Oakland Athletics club coming to Fenway Park starting on Tuesday.
If the Red Sox keep winning and the front office and ownership don't invest, they'll upset fans and the guys taking the field every night that Breslow seems to be putting some pressure on.
