#SOSRioGrandeDoSul

south summit’s brazilian home needs us

Rio Grande do Sul is the home of the South Summit in Brazil. Since 2022, our global innovation platform has been connecting the south of the country to the world with incomparable meetings in Porto Alegre, the state capital. Since May of this year, the state has been facing the biggest environmental catastrophe Brazil has seen in recent history. More than 90% of its cities were affected by the floods caused by the heavy rains that fell in Rio Grande do Sul last month. In all, more than 2 million people were directly affected and are still looking for ways to rebuild their lives, homes and businesses.

On two fronts, the South Summit family wants to mobilize its international network of contacts to help Rio Grande do Sul at this delicate time: its own crowdfunding and a global call for solutions.

In the proprietary crowdfunding run through BrazilFoundation, the money raised will go to the initiatives of partners who are working tirelessly: Instituto Caldeira and Instituto Cultural Floresta.

In the global call for solutions, we expect you to apply if your company or startup has a unique initiative that can be applied in some way in Rio Grande do Sul.

Our roots allow us to articulate and connect people and solutions from all over the world to spaces and people who need to restart their lives and businesses. Will you join us on this mission?

South Summit’s Crowdfunding

It’s time for collaboration

The coming days, months and years will be about recovery.

The population will face different challenges over time, which is why our campaign is long-term, with recurring transfers to local partners who have been tirelessly working on the front line since the first days of the disaster.

Our aim is to boost the fundraising of the Instituto Cultural Floresta, which will initially provide primary necessities (such as hygiene and food), and the Instituto Caldeira, which will help rebuild sites directly affected by the flood.

There is no minimum donation and every contribution can make a difference. If you can, donate.

Contribute via the State Government

For cash donations, you can also choose to donate via the government’s official channel.

The State Government of Rio Grande do Sul is the co-organizer of South Summit Brazil and, in recent years, has been an important player in the effort to strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem. The government’s stand at South Summit Madrid 2024 is the point of reference for more information on how to help Rio Grande do Sul.

Through Banco do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, The State Government made banking channels available for international deposits to assist the flood victims in southern Brazil. Cash contributions can be made by individuals and legal entities through Banrisul partner institutions. The management and supervision of the resources are under the responsibility of a Management Committee, composed of representatives from government bodies and social entities and is chaired by the State Civil House, and the resources will be fully used for humanitarian support for the flooding victims and for the reconstruction of the municipalities’ infrastructure.

SOSOUTH: GLOBAL CALL FOR SOLUTIONS

In addition to the initiatives of the Rio Grande do Sul State plan, SOSouth is a global call from South Summit Brazil for startups with solutions that can help rebuild what has been lost, but also build a more resilient and sustainable future for rio grande do sul. Find your startup’s vertical and apply by July 31.
