Congregation B’nai Emet will host a Sushi in the Sukkah event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mon., Oct. 2 at the synagogue, 9 W. Bonita Drive, Simi Valley.
Guests can make their own sushi and celebrate Sukkot.
The fall harvest festival is celebrated with building a sukkah, a temporary shelter, and incorporating aspects of nature to offer thanks and welcome the fall season.
The event will be a learning session about the holiday, its history and the reasons behind the rituals. Activities will be offered for children and teens and adults.
Each person will have an opportunity to say the prayers for the lulav and etrog, the symbols of the holiday that consist of four different types of plants.
Songs and dessert will follow the sushi dinner.
The event is free and it’s sponsored by the National Jewish Outreach Program for the Sukkot Across America project.

•The synagogue also offers adult Hebrew and an adult bar/ bat mitzvah program.
The five-session beginning Hebrew and Hebrew refresher class for adults will run from 9 to 10 a.m. starting Sun., Oct. 15 at the synagogue.
Rabbi Michele Paskow will teach the class.
No prior background is necessary. The course is free.
The program is sponsored by Read Hebrew America, a campaign of the National Jewish Outreach Program and Congregation B’nai Emet.
Upon completing the class, those who want to study for an adult bar or bat mitzvah will be able to sign up for the next class.
