Simi doula releases new book

As a birth and postpartum doula, Jill Magoffin of Simi Valley strives to help lower the stress, anxiety and pressure of welcoming a new baby into the world.

For Magoffin, it’s not a job—it’s literally a labor of love.

“No matter what your family looks like, or what you want for a birth plan, I will support you to ensure your needs are met by providing you with information and options, without judgment,” she says on her website.

Magoffin delivers the same kind of heart and warmth in the children’s books she writes. “You Are So Loved” is about a family planning for the delivery of a new child; “Dear Little Baby” is for young kids who are about to welcome a younger sibling.

Her latest, “The Adventures of Doula Sunny: A Family’s IVF Journey,” was released in May. It’s about a doula who helps a couple on their journey to become parents through in vitro fertilization.

“I’m addicted to writing children’s books about being a doula and the incredible support they bring to families,” she writes on Instagram.” I love what I do so much that I want to share it with the world.”

In the new book, Doula Sunny helps Emily and Alex through every step of their journey to parenthood, from the very beginning of their dream to have a baby, through the challenges of IVF, to the joyous moment of their child’s birth.

With colorful illustrations and simple language, the book shows the special bond between Doula Sunny and the families she helps.

“ I wanted to share how doulas support families even before they have conceived,” Magoffin said.

“The Adventures of Doula Sunny: A Family’s IVF Journey” is available online at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Magoffin doesn’t expect to sell a million copies. She just wants to celebrate the support that doulas provide.

“While my books might not make the New York Times Top 100 list, they come straight from my heart,” she said.
