White Sox ace Garrett Crochet is expected be highly sought after at this year’s trade deadline, and the Yankees are among the numerous teams interested in the left-hander.

Last week, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that Crochet is “coveted” by the Yankees, who “very much like” the best pitcher on baseball’s worst team.

Heyman notes that despite the Yankees’ interest in Crochet, they “seem unwilling” to part with top prospect Spencer Jones, “a potential hang-up assuming he remains a South Side target.” The White Sox were known to be interested in Jones when the Yankees explore a possible trade for Dylan Cease last offseason, and they were unwilling to trade the outfield prospect.

Crochet, 24, was the 11th overall pick of Chicago in the 2020 draft. He debuted that year but didn’t make any major league starts until this season. Injuries limited his availability and workload, and he has undergone Tommy John surgery and dealt with shoulder inflammation.
