With a spate of warm, sunny days having been the relative norm recently, there is a chance that come Thursday, the fireworks will fizzle and lead into a couple of wet days, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

“Temperatures are going to continue to be warm the next few days, and at the moment there is only a 30% chance of a thundershower on Independence Day; most of the day will look good,” according to Bob Oravec, NWS lead forecaster.

Oravec said that as per several models, there is a potential throughout Thursday for thunderstorms to be moving through the area in the late afternoon through the early evening, possibly putting a damper on fireworks around 8 p.m. or 9 p.m.

Thursday night continues with a chance of showers and possible thunderstorms as clouds and patchy fog move in after 2 a.m. at a low of 71 degrees.

Friday is expected to continue being warm with temperatures in the upper 80s, but Oravec said to be wary of the fact that the day brings with it the potential for more thunderstorms.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms continues into Friday night, with showers likely and a possible thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72 degrees.

“Saturday there’s a chance for more severe weather as a cold front comes through the east coast, making for a likely chance for additional showers and thunderstorms, especially late afternoon into the evening hours,” Oravec said.

While the day will be partly sunny with a high hovering around 87 degrees, showers with thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m.

Oravec pointed out that while there’s the potential for ¼ to ½ inch of rain, some local storms could have heavier totals.

More showers are possible before 2 a.m. Saturday night as it will be partly cloudy with a low of 71 degrees.
