STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The temperature will cool down for a few days, before jumping again to the high 80s for Independence Day, bringing a chance of thunderstorms, according to AccuWeather.

“After we went through that active day Sunday and that really humid day, we are feeling really comfortable out there today,” said Matt Benz, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

With temperatures in the mid 80s, Tuesday and Wednesday will be a continuation of the kind of warm and sunny days Staten Island has experienced as of late.

On Thursday residents might want to check the forecast before firing up the grill, because while the early part of the day appears to be dry, there will be storms throughout the afternoon into the later part of the evening, according to Benz.

“On Thursday it could be a soaker if it gets humid again,” explained Benz. “It’s too early to say how much rain we could see specifically but there could be some downpours later Thursday and certainly as we head into Friday and Saturday.”

Thunderstorms will become more active Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the forecaster predicted.

If there is both heat and humidity then, there is the chance for these thunderstorms to come along with gusty winds, Benz said.
