N.Y. weather: What’s the forecast for Fourth of July?

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Showers and thunderstorms could dampen New Yorkers’ Fourth of July travel and entertainment plans.

Although weather patterns could shift between now and the holiday, current predictions by AccuWeather.com call for a chance of rain on our borough from Thursday through Sunday.

Leading up to July 4, New Yorkers can expect relatively pleasant weather, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Marc Chenard.

“It should be a dry Monday, and ... most of the state will be in the 70s, maybe low 80s in New York City,” Chenard told the Advance/SILive.com. “It should be another mostly sunny day on Tuesday, generally the low- to mid-80s over much of the state.”

According to Chenard, Wednesday will begin to warm up, and while most of New York will be dry, the western part of the state could see some shower and thunderstorm activity later in the day.

A cold front moving into the area could bring storms on Thursday, but it’s unclear how much moister the front will have, said Chenard.

“At the moment, it doesn’t look like [Fourth of July] will be a washout, but there’s some chance of a few showers and thunderstorms in in the region.”

Much of the state will see highs in the 80s, said Chenard, while New York City could be closer to 90.
